Why Family Adventures Are Important.

I am a strong believer in going on family adventures. These can be from a day road trip to a week or more vacation. There is truly something special about going away, getting on a plane, or car, and just going away. It’s a time to let loose, regroup, and laugh. If you have ever been on a road trip, you are guaranteed that something fun, odd, or weird happened. A memory that you can keep coming back to and saying, “Remember when.” The memory will go on for a long time. It’s those memories that we will always carry with us as we grow old together.

Those remember when moments.

The picture above was taken of my daughter and me. To be honest, I can’t remember what we were doing other than doing face masks in bed. That and laughing together. For the both of us, it’s one of our favourite pictures of us together.

It brings a smile to our faces.

I have so many memories of taking trips with my daughters, from trying In and Out Burger for the first time to the never-ending rides on the bug zoo ride at Disney to the sweet memories of the hugest smile on my daughter’s face from getting up close to Sea Lion. Truthfully, nothing tops those memories.

Road trips have a way of healing. A way of getting closer, a way of bonding. I know when I have been in a dark place, getting out on the road with good music brings joy to my heart. I have made many plans while on the road, changed what’s not working for me, and set huge goals. It’s been a place of reflection, a place of letting go, and grieving.

Family adventures are a good time to let loose and do things you might never do in your own backyard, act silly, and try things. Maybe you get an extra dose of courage when you leave your house or your own expectations of what you “should do” get left at home.

While out and about you get to know each other on a deeper level, it’s an amazing time to bond. Much can be said for conversations when no one has anywhere to go. I have had some deep intimate conversations while on road trips, maybe it’s the freedom you feel or the fact you aren’t directly looking at the other person.

Road trips can create the right environment for deep connections

Maybe a week-long vacation is too much to plan right now. Why not go for a short trip? Pack the family in the car and drive. There are no set places to go. So much of our lives is planned and planned again. There is such a huge power in getting in the car and heading out into the world.

Oh, and when you do, come back and share all about it.

Happy Travels
